Work Camps

Each year VOLU organizes about 10 to 25 workcamps. Most workcamps are held during the summer vacations (June to October) with a small number during Christmas and Easter vacations. Workcamps usually last between two to four weeks. These workcamps involves about 100 participants of whom over 50 come from other African countries, Europe, North America and Asia.

VOLU organizes six different types of Projects and workcamps

  1. A local or National Workcamp. Which is opened to Ghanaians only. For various reasons some workcamps are unsuitable for foreigners.
  2. An international Workcamp. Which is opened to volunteers from all countries including Ghana.
  3. An Experimental Living Camp. This is where volunteers stay in the houses or homes of local families. Meals camp meetings, entertainment and common meetings of villagers and work-campers are held at the camp leader’s residence or the Community chief’s palace.
  4. An Ecumenical Camp. This is meant for religious people: such camps are organized once every year. Such as Festivals and Ritual event camps.
  5. A leadership Training Camp. This is a camp usually organized for selected VOLU members for training in leadership course.
  6. A Weekend Workcamp. This is a workcamp usually organized for VOLU members who due to their occupation are unable to attend a full length camp, and to tackle urgent or small work projects.
