British Komenda Fort

Fort Patience

Fort Amsterdam

Date: 30th August – 19th September, 2025
Number of Volunteers: 10
Description: Our organization has selected British Komenda Fort and Fort Patience as focus sites for this campaign due to their pressing preservation needs and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

  1. British Komenda Fort: The site is affected by erosion and structural issues involving boulder stones, threatening its long-term stability.
  2. Fort Patience: This Fort faces challenges such as damaged roofing, deteriorating carpentry, broken doors, peeling paint, and dysfunctional washroom facilities. These problems hinder its use as a cultural and historical site.
  3. Fort Amsterdam: Volunteers hope to stay at this community (Abandze) for one week and learn about recent preservation efforts at this site, engage the community there, and map out activities for the above-mentioned sites.

Type of Work: Despite their historical and cultural significance, both sites lack adequate funding for preservation. Through this action camp, we aim to:

  • Contribute minor or preliminary preservation efforts where volunteer work can provide immediate support.
  • Conduct fundraising activities to generate resources for more extensive restoration projects.
  • Strengthen community engagement to foster local ownership and pride in these heritage sites.
  • Raise public awareness about the importance of these sites, encouraging broader support for their preservation.
